And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun...
Standing on the threshold of what was and what will be, I ponder...
I ponder on the memories that I have made, the mistakes that have haunted me, the misfortunes that visited me in the guise of blessings. The beggar that I have been, dipping my cup in the vast well of wisdom... new things that I have learnt and the promises that I have yet to keep.
Today is December 29. In a couple of days it will be yet another New Year.. set objectives, define goals and work towards it... all, part of a mundane machine. No wonder, 60 percent of the New Year's Resolutions fail.
I may write about being fearless about fear of failure, but, to live it is another story. I fight my fear demons every single day. In fact, I am so afraid being part of the failed 60% that I do not indulge myself in the business of making resolutions. Instead I take stock of what I have achieved. I appreciate the journey that I have made, the relationships that I have nurtured and the stories that I lived. I like looking in the rear view mirror. It allows me to see what I want to see in the looking glass.
Yes, you might be asking what was I up to. I sure was not updating my blogs. The last one that made the entry was on September 18. I saw the RSS feeds going up and then going down, then up again only to make its' inevitable downslide within a matter of days. Despair would strike me; only to be followed by guilt. I am guilty for not diverting my focus onto my blogs. I aplogogize for not keeping up with it. I do have to admit, the break from the right brain was refreshing. I was also on a mission to get these tasks accomplished for the benefit of the brand and the ultimately for the benefit of the users of the brand. You are stationed on the judging seat. Let me how I have fared.
Launched 2 websites. exhibits.skybay.com | www.skybay.com
Researched on couple of e-books. (stay tuned) I will start updating the Idea Library as I go along. Have not been very good at it.
Now, let's talk about my daunting mistake.
To be more relevant in the eyes of Google, I changed the domain name from info.skybay.com to exhibits.skybay.com. All my sources assured me that this was just a lateral move with no noticeable effect on SEO. The real result: I lost all social validations on all my blogs and lost all comments good and bad. Now, that was a painful lesson to digest and to live with it. But, now you know not to do what I have done. At least, let that wisdom be the sunny side of this fiasco.
As we get psyched up to usher in the New Year, we find ourselves on the cusp of some big changes, again. For marketers of all mediums, it is a huge shift. "Changes like this haven't happened elsewhere in the company. Accounting hasn't changed. Product development hasn't changed much. Sales isn't so different. Marketing [and Exhibiting] has been completely transformed." In the coming months I plan to learn and execute new marketing and design and technological techniques. As I do so, I plan to take you on this adventurous journey of sharing, planning and giving.
For, it is the journey that I enjoy. It is the journey that sustains me. Because, it is in the journey, that you get to make mistakes. And, if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new ways, "learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re doing something."
In the end, "whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, magic, and power in it || Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
And, New Year is the perfect beginning for one such magic. Start on a daring adventure. It is good for your brand. It is good for your soul. Without it, you are just spinning the same old. A Benedictine monk once told me, to live we breathe, but few lives are lived that takes our breath away!
