Art of Creation: Design with 5 Minds

Posted by sarmistha tarafder on Apr 7, 2011 12:07:00 PM

We, human species are impeccable creators

We create our own thoughts, our will, our emotions, our perception and our immaginations. We are our MINDS. No doubt Winston Churchill stated in his speech at Harvard University in 1943, "The empires of the future are the empires of the mind." Sprint forward 60 years or so and a similar sentiment is echoed in the writings of Howard Gardner from Harvard Graduate School of Education. In his book, 5 Minds for the Future, Gardner ponders about the human mind. He says the world of tomorrow, "with its ubiquitous search engines, robots and other computational devices, will demand capacities that until now have been mere options."

The Tiffany Touch: ChocolateBlues in Trade show Design

ChocolateBlue is that glorious outcome of such a Union.
And there is no saying goodbye to this color coalition any time soon. Not one of my favorites, but none-the-less a very strong partnership merges when the two come together.

Trade Booth Design Trends: A Walk in the Bizarre

Posted by sarmistha tarafder on Dec 11, 2010 3:00:00 PM

The term bi•zarre |biˈzär| means odd, eccentric and strikingly out of the ordinary. The bizzare is the construct of our creative, nonconformist right brain. It is absolutely absurd, crazy, nonsensical, preposterous. It is unreal. It is wild. It is fanciful. It is the bizzare that creates movements and sets trends. An example is The Dada (movement or more of a non-movement) that began in Zurich in reponse to the insane killings of World War I. The movement was spearheaded by people walking in the bizzare.  Artists, poets, writers, intellectuals all concerted their efforts on anti-war politics by denouncing the prevailing standards in art through anti-art cultural works. Their purpose was to taunt what they considered to be the nonsensical nationalism, rationalism, materialism and any other -ism which they felt had contributed to a senseless war. An example of the outrageous Dada art is the painting of Mona Lisa with a mustache by Marcel Duchamp.

PURPOSEFUL DESIGN: Deliberation of December

Posted by sarmistha tarafder on Dec 3, 2010 3:12:00 PM

In Latin, December means the tenth month. History dictates that in 700 BC, the Roman King Numa Pompilius moved the beginning of the year from March and added January and February.

From here on, the nameless dark stretch contributed to the 12 month Gregorian calendar as we now know it.

Trade Show Display Design: Brand Lustre amidst Post-Recession Ruins

Posted by sarmistha tarafder on Oct 28, 2010 10:39:00 AM

As we are emerging from the Great Recession of our times, the salient question that is often asked, how important is the brand proposition. BrandZ Research shows as the S&P declined, the value of illustrious brands increased. Over the past 5 years the value of BrandZ Top 100 Global brands have appreciated by 40%. This is striking. To be more analytical, measured against the S&P 500 during the same five-year period, the BrandZ Top 100 Portfolio has grown by 18.5 percent in value compared with a decline of 11.5 percent for the S&P 500. What is it about indestructible brands that transcends price and perception even during the challenging times? Of the various features below, the heritage factor comes across strong to me. To illustrate the Legacy factor, I could not find a better example than the Reichstag Building in Berlin.
