The avant-garde movement in art and literature of the early 20th-century that sought to release the creative potential of the sub-conscious mind, for example by the irrational juxtaposition of images is often termed as surrealism.
In the words of Salvador Dali, Surréalism is said to be the symbolic language of the subconscious; truly a universal language, it doesn’t depend on education, culture or intelligence.
Surréalism means cleansing your mind of what you have seen and be on the look out of "what has never been."

THE PAIN OF EFFORT
The saying goes 'no pain, no gain'. As designers and as creators we are told that in order to achieve something you have to travel the path of pain and peril. There is no other way out.
The lords and the ladies of self-help proclaim the merits of discipline, focus and the steadfast firmness of human will. They lay out 5 step program or 10 step methodology, explaining how its is done. And they say, you have to keep at it and keep at it, to be any good. But does it really help? Findings are mixed at the best — the disastrous outcome of of New Years' goal in general and the failed strategy behind those hard goals setting are a sad testament to our human will.
I believe, the problem lies in this rote method. 'Keep doing', 'Keep working'. And, you will succeed. This may work for a while, but definitely not sustainable for the long haul.

It is a striking irony that in a bio-diverse planet such as ours we thrive on the competitive herd mentality of trying "to fit in". We like to play it safe. We like to trod the path that have been traveled ten thousand times. We have forsaken the imaginative spirit of David Livingstone to be "the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary". The best we can do is "new and improved" of the same old stuff. For example, the daily staple jeans: we have a choice of high rise, low rise, classic rise, boot cut, straight cut, wide leg, skinny flair and more of the same. In vain, we do not think about fabricating jeans that will interact with the atmospheric conditions to provide optimum wearing experience. The technology is there yet the imagination and the capital to take it to this level is sure lacking!
