Newsjacking: Artistry in Digital Marketing

As darkness descended upon Sunday's Super Bowl, few clever brands seized the opportunity to instantly play upon the outage, newsjacking it on their social media networks. Big and small brands all had their share. Some brands highlighted their value proposition, others delved into damage control.

Brands like Oreo was an instant hit, posting a photo on Facebook with the caption "Power Out? No Problem." The photo reads "You Can Still Dunk in the Dark." Indeed, a piece very witty newsjacking. Their status was being updated at supersonic speed! And it seems to have paid off. The image has received over 20,000 likes and over 6,900 shares to date.
